Job Summary:
The Lifting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all lifting and rigging operations on the project site to ensure they are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures and safety regulations. The role includes coordinating with crane operators, riggers, and site engineers to ensure that lifting activities are properly planned, risk-assessed, and executed without incidents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all lifting and rigging operations at the project site in accordance with approved lifting plans and safety procedures.
- Ensure that all lifting equipment (cranes, slings, shackles, etc.) is certified, inspected, and fit for use.
- Coordinate with site engineers, equipment operators, and riggers to plan safe lifting operations.
- Review and approve lifting plans, method statements, and risk assessments before execution.
- Monitor lifting activities to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Stop any unsafe lifting operation and report incidents or near-misses immediately to the HSE or Project Manager.
- Ensure proper communication between lifting team members during operations.
- Maintain records of lifting equipment inspections, operator licenses, and daily lifting permits.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings related to lifting operations.
- Liaise with third-party inspectors for equipment testing and certification when required.
- Support the development of continuous improvements in lifting safety standards and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Civil, or Construction Engineering.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in lifting operations within the construction industry.
- Certified Lifting Supervisor from an approved authority (e.g., TUV, LEEA, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of crane types, lifting accessories, load charts, and rigging techniques.
- Excellent understanding of lifting safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret lifting plans and load calculations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain focus during critical operations.
Work Environment:
- Site-based position requiring constant presence during lifting operations.
- Close coordination with construction, safety, and equipment teams.
- Exposure to outdoor working conditions and heavy equipment.
- Fast-paced environment requiring high attention to safety and accuracy.
